INVESTORS AND CARE SECTOR WORKERS RECEIVE EU-FUNDED CARE HOME MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Some 40 people took part in a two-day EU-funded Care Home Management Course at the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce in Nicosia, on Friday and Saturday 29-30 July, 2022.

The programme was organised by the Association of Elderly Rights and Mental Health under the Elderly Rights Movement Project, funded by the European Union under the Cypriot Civil Society In Action VII Grant Scheme.
Aged care sector experts presented training sessions on topics including social policies for elderly, senior tourism, financial challenges, and care follow-up methods in nursing homes.

Association of Elderly Rights and Mental Health Chairperson Prof. Dr. Hatice Jenkins said: “As a result of our initial research in the aged care sector, we identified these kinds of educational activities are crucial in efforts to improve the care sector and encourage investors to venture into care services.”
“We plan to hold more training courses aimed at care sector stakeholders next year,” she added.

Project Coordinator Ayşe Aydındoğmuş said: “We are so pleased with the interest and feedback for this training. We thank the European Union, Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce, our trainers, and everyone who supported this event.”

On the first day of training, İstanbul Atlas University Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Aytolan Yıldırım held sessions on social policies for the elderly, and care home human resources management, while International Elderly Care Consultant Dr. Vildan Kandemir discussed the economic implications of elderly care, and senior tourism.
The second day of the course consisted of sessions on strategic and financial challenges in care homes, given by expert Filios Savvides, who is a Strategist and Financial Planner, and partner of Materia Group.
Also, Social Work Expert and Chairperson of the Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Parkinson’s Association, Hakan Berktaş, held a presentation on the care home sector in Turkey, while Dr. Ayşe Aydındoğmuş held a session on the importance and use of care follow-up forms in elderly health care.
